Squeaked in Another Post......

A busy day ahead...dentist appointment, grocery shopping, food prep and tidying!!! Whew...I'm tired already and I'm just starting out!

I wanted to post this little finish from last night before

it got "lost on the shuffle". This was a car stitch and I only had the back stitching, date and initials to do. It should be easy to FFO. It is called Queen of the Needle by Hands on Design. Cathy gave you options for your 'title and I chose 'lady' over 'queen'. She also provided "boss", 'king' and 'lord'. Stitched all in black on the 18 ct perforated paper. Don't you love the crown charm?

Have a great weekend and thanks for your "twisted threads" of friendship!

Happy Birthday Gigi!

Today would have been my grandmother's 127th birthday. She did live a long life making it to 99 3/4 years old. This grandmother lived with us while I was growing up and contributed to my love of reading. She always had a book going and once I was old enough to drive, it was my responsibility to take her to the library. A funny story I may have told before.... after she read Myra Breckenridge, she wrapped it in a brown paper bag to throw out...she didn't want anyone to know she had read it!!! LOL

We went to or final play in the Broadway series that had been rescheduled from 2020, The Bands Visit .  It was a cute premise but oh so slow..... No intermission..just 95 minutes straight through. We are debating doing this again...the seats are so close even my legs butt up against the row in front of me. Poor Rich who is 6'1" barely fits. Sitting immobile for 90 minutes is getting tougher! But, I LOVE going to see the plays, especially musicals.

I finished the pin cube for the Jeanette Douglas piece yesterday. Now to put it all together.

I may not post over the next few days as I enjoy time with family, especially Jax!!! :)

Thanks for stopping by and your "twisted threads" of friendship.

Rain, Rain Don't Go Away......

Yes!!!!! We finally got some rain yesterday and more in the forecast today...much welcomed.

The grand baby is coming to visit this weekend. We will drive to get my parents Friday and bring them to our house so they can meet the little fella. I don't have to baby proof yet, but need to prepare for company. Can't wait to see-hold-and love on our sweet baby boy!!!

I am close to finishing the stitching on the pin cube for the Jeanette Douglas piece.

And I chose my project for the August Summer Cross Stitch Camp with the Colorado Stitcher, but will wait to share until August 1st. The theme is to try something new to you, so I have picked a new to me thread and a designer I have never stitched.

Pretty in Pink.....

I saw these Nurge hoops on Sylvia's Running with Needles and Scissors floss tube and thought I'd give them a whirl. So not a "pink" person..... I did think of you, Vickie...but I like the shape. I think it will be more versatile than the typical round ones...we shall see. They came in 4 different sizes; this is small and extra small. There is also a medium and large. I find I am back to using hoops again, after years of Q-snaps or in hand stitching, as long as I can get the whole design within the perimeter. You can find them on Amazon if interested.

On the stitching front, I started the pin cube on the Jeanette Douglas piece. This will be the last of the smalls. Jeanette did have two scissor fob designs, but I'm opting for just the one shown earlier.

Will be hitting Planet Fitness this afternoon to walk on the treadmill. Made it 5 days last week..always get a spot under the huge fans!!!

Staying Indoors.....

Not much to report today except it's still hot- hot- hot!!! So, I'm going to stitch-stitch-stitch.

I did attend the virtual stitch-in yesterday for the DVHSG. It was a small group but full of "stitch talk" and sharing. I always enjoy these get togethers, whether in person or via Zoom.

Here's the finished, except for the buttons on the left, scissor case from the Jeanette Douglas project.

Stays cool!

Laundry out the Yahoo.....

Our laundry has been piling up due to a broken switch on our dryer. We've been waiting a week for the part to come in; I'm lucky to have a mechanical engineer as a SIL and between him and Rich, they could fix it without having to call a repairman. The part came just in the knick of time as the 'undie' supply was running a tad low!!!! :) So today will be spent tackling the mound while squeezing in a virtual stitch in with the DVHSG.

I started the scissor case for my Jeanette Douglas piece last night while watching the Gray Man on Netflix. It was a little over the top, but a good backdrop. This is the front of the case. Buttons will go in the rectangle at the top. The back will have a flame stitch in that section.

I promised Photos......

.....and here they are!!! We drove to Captain Billy's,  just across the Potomac River from Virginia into Maryland. Steamed crabs, shrimp and hush puppies ensued. Yes, that is a burger in the back, as by brother doesn't care for the crabs. It's about a 2 hour drive, but my hubby has fond memories of going to this place as a child and we've started a tradition of going each summer around our anniversary.

I started a new car project on the way up, a Mill Hill perforated paper Christmas ornament called Peace on Earth. It's two sided and might become one of the grandkids ornaments for 2022. It's mall, less then 3 X 3".

Check out this sweet little project bag my friend, Lisa, made me. The fabric is so cute and the top "snaps' shut. There is part of a metal measuring tape in the casing at the top that allows this to happen...very clever. My little kit fits perfectly inside and the popsicles can keep it cool during this heat wave! :)

Please stay cool and hydrated my friends! Thanks for stopping by and your "twisted threads" of friendship!

A Good Movie......

We did make it to the movies yesterday to see Where the Crawdads Sing and it was great. I did not read the book, but hubby had. He said it did veer from the book a bit, so I am waiting anxiously for my hold at the library to hit so I can compare.

Today we're getting together with my brother and his wife, just over the Maryland border, for some steamed crabs. It's about halfway between our houses and works great for a meeting spot.  We usually eat out on the porch overlooking the Potomac River, but with temps in the mid 90's today, we may switch to inside.....pics to follow tomorrow.

I did manage to get some stitches in last night while we watched  Under the Banner of Heaven...the jury is still out on that! I finished the needlebook and one side of the scissor fob for the Jeanette Douglas piece.

Off to Planet Fitness for a walk on the treadmill. Thanks for stopping by and your "twisted threads" of friendship!

48 Years and Counting.....

Today is our anniversary.....having a pretty laid back day....we're going to go see Where the Crawdads Sing and out for a bite to eat. Thought you'd get a kick out of a wedding picture, or two!

Yes, I made my wedding dress...white eyelet fabric....I am so not a fancy girl!!!

This was my "limo" to and from the wedding. :)

No photo description available.

I started the needlebook on my Jeantte Douglas piece. It's done with the double Hungarian stitch in one of my fave colors, Blue Grass by Glorianna.

The back and front are done this way.

Another Day Inside.......

......with temps in the 90's, though Europe is having a historic heat wave and A/C is not widespread. So for my friends abroad, please stay safe and cool. I don't think I could survive without A/C but did for the first 37 years of my life. We made do with fans, cool wash rags on the forehead at night, cold drinks and a shady spot on the porch. I've never been good handling the heat, and it's getting harder as I age. How about you?

On the stitching front, I finished the pincushion for My Stitching Box.....just need to find a small crown charm for the lower left. It wasn't included in my kit, but I'm sure to find something to substitute.

Icy Sweet.........

I was finally able to round up three of my four local grandkids and take them out for an end of the school year treat....over a month late!!! They have busy little lives and we had been away a lot....but oh it was worth the wait! I had heard of a new place in town called the Vampire Penguin; they serve what I'd call upscale shaved ice. You choose your base ice out of flavors such as chocolate, vanilla, mango, banana, etc, then add toppings. They were beautiful to look at and delicious to eat. I told myself there aren't many calories as it's mainly frozen water....Yea, right!!! But wait, I checked out what I ordered...a small Dulce de Leches and it says it's only 170 calories!!! It does take a bit to prepare your dessert, so games are provided to pass the time. We will be going back!!!

My Dulce de Leches consisted of vanilla ice, with caramel on top, sides of whipped cream and flan (that's what's up near the Uno card). I opted out of the sliced bananas.

Now some stitching....I needed a break from Harriett, so pulled out My Stitching Box by Jeanette Douglas. I only had the flowers on the basket to do and start the border. It goes pretty fast and I love the variegated color, Blue Grass, from Glorianna.

That's it for today...hope you have a great week...thanks for stopping by and your "twisted threads" of friendship!

I'm Seeing Red.....

Harriett came out to play a little bit last night. I'm stitching her with AVAS 100/3 #2646 over two on 40 ct. cream Newcastle linen. I like working with the 100/3 until I get down to the last 8" or so, then it seems to keep twisting.

I made a little trip to Scrap RVA, our local art/craft supply 'thrift' store. People donate their old, unused, don't need anymore craft supplies and we can go buy them at a good price. It's a crap shoot what you'll find but I have gotten needlepoint canvases, wool roving, sewing machine for granddaughters, etc. there. Here is what I got yesterday...not a boon, but always fun hunting.

Can't wait to see what the book entails!!!

Summer Breeze Makes Me Feel Fine......660

Welcome to the halfway point of July and another hot, humid summer day! But today I have a 'breeze" blowing through......Summer Breeze ......a freebie from Hands on Design. Stitched on a 32 ct mystery linen with GAST and WDW threads. I substituted out the red and dark blue for colors I had on hand. I finished it as a box cushion in a beach chair I found at the Christmas Tree Shop; it says it is a 5" napkin holder. Haven't made a box pillow in quite some time, but I muddled through. It's not the neatest on the bottom, so I....GASP...glued it in place. I added the bow and mermaid at the bottom to cover up where the trim met. It unraveled very easily and I couldn't get it to stay put. Always a way to improvise!!! The flip flop came with the chair!

I got the week's section on my iStitch SAL done and can now get back to work on Harriet...unless something else catches my eye!!! I do tend to be easily distracted!!!!

A Little Redwork......

I finished the stitching on Summer Breeze (Tina B..if you see this, Cathy from HOD sent this freebie out in her May newsletter) and brought Harriet Salt out to play. Anything to the left of the pin, at the top, is new.

Luke is going home today..we will miss him, but can't wait to vacuum and get up the dog hair!!! Hope you have a great weekend!

Wishing for a Summer Brreze....

.....but a cross stitch 'breeze' will have to do! I am almost finished with Summer Breeze,  a freebie by Hands on Design. I only have to outline the word 'breeze' at the bottom. I decided to stitch the letters solid rather than the banner 'look' as seen below. I also changed the linen from a  blue to a sandy brown.

Did you see the sweet project minder next to my piece? I found this at Rag Tag Quilt Art on Etsy. I keep my 'in use' threads on it and just close it up when done; it even came with a fabric covered needle holder. I love the fabric choice!

Kindred Spirits.....

Had a fun day yesterday with mt friend, Lisa. We hit Chadwick's up first thing! The store is sadly going to close and this was my first time there. Lots and lots of fun fabrics but most very bright and colorful. There were no civil war type fabrics and calicos. They were having a 20% off sale.....I see some new project bags in my future!!! Starting today, they are offering 25% off...I may have to return at some point.

After our shopping, we headed home for some stitchy time. I am working on a freebie from Hands on Design called Summer Breeze. I'm stitching it on a 32 ct mystery linen with GAST and WDW. I had to substitute two colors with similar ones I had on hand.

This will be finished as a cushion for this adorable napkin holder I found at the Christmas Tree shop a couple years ago.

My friend gifted me these fun wooden boards that she found at Aldi...who would have thought!!! They'll be great for some finishing ideas!

That's it for now...thanks for stopping by and your "twisted threads" of friendship!
