Post a Day November #30 and Stroll Piece #621

Today is the last day of November and my granddaughters birthday. She and her Mom are off to NYC for a few days to celebrate...I can't wait to hear about the Harry Potter store!!! Here she is in the cowgirl hat I got her for her birthday. A cute story about her: her Dad took her to her first country music concert this summer and when she got out of the car and saw all the fans tailgating and such, she is quoted to have said " Dad, these are my people"!!! Sadly, they missed the actual concert due to heavy rain and storms.

I did not post yesterday...the day kind of got away from me as I unpacked, did many loads of laundry, paid bills, etc..

I am officially adding this to my Stroll.....today I will be driving to Virginia Beach to pick up my framed Houses of Hawk Run Hollow. Patti Nicolosi, my framer, sent me this photo of the finished piece. I can't wait to see it in person, then get it home on my wall!

This ends my post a day in November...I may try to stick to this format of posting more often ......not every day......but with the holidays looming, who knows!!! I appreciate all who take the time to visit my blog, but especially those who leave a comment...this starts conversations.... some to and fro.... and treasured friendships have been made. Thanks to all for stopping by and your 'twisted threads" of friendship!

Post a Day in November #27

Our last day here in Black Mountain and we're heading to a little town called Waynesville....looking forward to a quiet day strolling the shops.

Here's how far I've gotten on my stitching...it's a piece from the the Friendstitch virtual retreat last year.

Here is a shot that my daughter and SIL rode a bike/walked up quite a long, steep hill to get for us.....Timber Ridge!!!

Post a Day in November #26

Another gorgeous sunrise to wake up to!

I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving...I think we ate enough food to last us until next Thanksgiving!

I don't post a lot of personal photos but thought I'd share some family photos today...I have so much to be thankful for!

I am blessed to have a beautiful family and really lucked out with my two SIL's--they are devoted to my daughters and families.

And, speaking of SIL's, one is a chef and created this bounteous meal for us!

To close, here is a shot of me and my daughters....both beautiful, loving souls of whom I am extremely proud!!!

November Post a Day #24

Yesterday we went to the Folk Art Museum which houses exhibits and sales by members of the Southern Highland Craft Guild.

There were beautiful works of art displayed in many different medias..wood, glass, fiber, etc.. These were two of my favorites:

This was a full length coat made with felted wool and embellished with other fibers

This is a hand carved display by Frank Caracci..a roller coaster, ferris wheel and carousel. He carved life sized carousel horses at first, but switched to miniatures.

Here is a close up of the carousel. If you look close you can see Michael Jackson, Marilyn Monroe and Elvis.

I'll close with a shot of my older daughter and SIL enjoying the sunrise (photo taken by my hubby).

Post a Day November #22

A bit grey, dreary sunrise this morning, but beautiful nonetheless!

Today is one of those days where you say "where was I " when we heard the news about JFK. I was only 10 but remember being haunted by the events of that day and the ones that followed.

November Post a Day #18

Someone posted this book, The Mary Frances Sewing Book, somewhere on social media and I was able to track down a copy form a Half Price Book Store in TX....this is when you have to love the internet!!! It is about  adventures among the Thimble People...I can't wait to read it... stories about sewing birds, fairies and even some patterns included.....lots of fun illustrations!!! This is a reprint from 1997, published by Lacis, and I love this little quote "This book is reprinted with the hope of capturing the imagination of every little girl who discovers the pleasures and rewards of working with fabric and thread". PERFECT!!! There is also a dedication in the front by the author, Jane Eayre Fryer, that says "For all girls who love to make pretty things".

Post a Day in November #17.....Strollin' 619

A sweet little finish for my great nephew's first Christmas. I have always loved this Prairie Schooler booklet, Button Up, and finally was able to snag a copy in the last year or so. I mounted it on the back of an ornament I found at Hobby Lobby.

Post a Day in November #14

I tried to fight it, but I succumbed to the Cookie Exchange hosted by Hands on Design. I wasn't sure about making my own floss drops.....afraid the colors wouldn't print brightly...... but they turned out great! I used spray adhesive to attach the printed images to some comic board, then brushed on a coat of Modge Podge. Can't wait for December 1st!!!

Post a Day in November #13

I am late posting this as I had a little day trip with a friend today. We traveled about 2 hours to a fairly new cross stitch shop (heard they opened in August), Southern Stitchers, in Brookneal VA. It was a really cute shop, not a whole lot of inventory, but what she had was well chosen. I had no trouble adding to my stash!

Then we did a little antiquing in town and I got this. Sorry pictures are dark, but it's night time now and I forgot to set to flash. That's a mini muffin tin in the upper left hand corner and a doorknob below it. The first aid kit is not old and I think may make a cute "stitch" aid kit.

We then drove to Farmville, VA to the Amish store where I got bean soup mix for hubby and sandwiches for dinner.

It was a long day but such fun!!! Now to put my feet up, relax and stitch a bit!

Post a Day in November #12

TGIF...the weekend is upon us! Though I do have to admit that now that I'm retired, the weekend tends to blend into the rest of the week.

Today I'm going to share an idea I had seen on FB and put into practice when I attended the retreats in October. It worked perfectly for when you don't have a table to work at, but are sitting in a chair, as we do in the lobby of The Lankford Hotel. I found it at Home Goods but have also seen it at TJ Maxx and/or Marshalls. And, I'm sure you could find a similar one elsewhere. So it's a lap stand by Rae Dunn...the kind with a bean bag type bottom, not one on 'legs'! It has an elastic band in the top left hand corner that you can slip a Halo lamp under and it holds it in place. I added a magnet to hold my scissors and a washer to hold a needle minder to the top right hand corner. Your chart can sit on the surface  with or without a magnetic board under it. I need a lamp and magnification; this was an easy solution.

Hope you have a great weekend! I'm doing a short day trip tomorrow, with a friend, to a fairly new cross stitch shop in Brookneal, VA. They are having a holiday open house tomorrow and I thought it would be fun to check them out and support them in their endeavor. I'll let you know how it is....

Post a Day in November #11

First...a BIG thanks to all our veterans who have proudly served our country and protected our freedoms. Your service is much appreciated!!!

I finished the November Wordplay by With Thy Needle and Thread last night. Stitched the same as the other 10 on 40 ct PTP Oaken linen, over two, with called for fibers. One more to go!!!!

This is for Catherine, per her request:

I had Cora here the last two days for virtual school as she had a child in her class test positive last week for Covid. I found these on my camera this morning!!!
