Couldn't Wait to Share.... 656-657

 

I am tickled to say that I managed to get both my ornaments finished yesterday, and I am so happy with how they turned out.

First up is the 1990 Santa by Prairie Schooler. I stitched him on 40 ct Sand Dune, over one with the called for DMC. I did leave off the border and the birds that were on the heads of the lower critters. Easy-peasy finish...just put some iron on interfacing on the back of the stitching, cut to size and popped in the frame. I get these frames from Michaels and love to check them out every year. They usually have a "year" charm, sometimes hanging loose and sometimes embossed on the frame. Luckily, this was a hanging charm and I could take it off, as it was from 2021. The size of the frame is 2 1/4 X 3.

 Up next is the sweet stocking from Flora McSample's 2013 Stockings by Lizzie Kate. This was stitched on 30 ct WDW Straw, over two, with Vicki Clayton Silks. The cute little charm was found after Christmas last year at JoAnn's. Hildi Jo has some adorable seasonal charms and jewelry that can work as charms.  I had the backing fabric in my stash and it worked perfectly because of the pink stars.

 Now if the weather would be more Christmas-like!!!

Stitchy Unwind......

 We returned from our visit to family picnics in Maryland and enjoyed the comfort of A/C last night. Two days of sitting outside in the heat/humidity was enough! Granted, I enjoyed every moment I spent catching up with cousins and friends but, oh, cooler temps would have been much appreciated.

I was able to "top off " my contribution to the 12in22ornament SAL and just need to pop it in its frame. I left off the border and birds on the tails of the two lower critters, as the tiny frame has a busy pattern and I thought it would be too much. Hopefully, I'll get that done today and can share as an FFO tomorrow.

 I picked out some backing fabric from my stash that I think will work with this stocking...hope to get that FFO'd soon.

We're in for a hot one today..I will only venture out to water my plants and get an oil change!!! Stay cool everyone...thanks for stopping by and your "twisted threads" of friendship!

Happy Fourth of July!!!

 Here is the family...at least those that attended...there are many more! Four generations descended from Mary Duke and James E. Codd, my grandparents. My grandmother was the eldest of 14, my Dad one of seven. My generation consisted of 35 cousins. The fourth generation I've lost count of!!! It was a great day reconnecting! I'm the one in red under the flag.

Picinic Time.....

A short post today as we leave shortly for our family picnic.

I finished the stitching on my Lizzie Kate stocking; it was a quick stitch and I think I have the backing fabric picked out...still pondering!

Holiday Weekend......

 

 July 4th is just a couple days away and we will be heading up to the Baltimore area for a family get together. Last year my cousin restarted the tradition of an extended family get together an, at what was my Aunt and Uncle's house and is now his, on the Fourth. I have so many fond memories of these Codd clan gatherings and am excited to be going. I am hoping to see my three Aunts and tons of cousins as well as my parents and siblings. Here is their lovely historic home and the bridge over a small creek that leads across a field and up to the railroad tracks, where we would lay pennies to get "smashed" by the trains! Family Gathering 2021

I got quite a bit stitched on my Summer Camp piece last evening as we watched the final two episodes of Stranger Things. The photo is showing the fabric much lighter than it really is. Just have the 'toe' area to do!

I thought I'd share some of my patriotic stitching before I end today. These photos are from the top of my display cabinet.  Feel free to ask any questions about any of the pieces.

A New Month Means a Couple New Starts....

Wow...the year is half over...and I'd like it to slow down considerably!!! You see, I turn 70 at the end of this year and this 'number' is a tough one to swallow! 50 and 60 I could handle, but 70 seems monumentally OLD!! And that's all I'm going to say about it!!!

On to my new starts....I'm doing the Summer Cross Stitch Camp with the Colorado Stitcher and for July we are to stitch something that will be finished in a way other than framing. I chose to do a small Lizzie Kate stocking. That way I can count that as my July ornament in the 2022 Ornament SAL hosted by Carol at Stitching Dreams....two birds with one stone so to speak. So, I'm doing the stocking in the lower left on Flora McSample's 2013 Stocking on 30 ct WDW Straw over two. I converted the DMC to Vicki Clayton silks and I will be putting my first stitches in on this today. The "blobs" of threads are from when Vicki's silks were on those horrible thread hangers!

 I also started another Christmas ornament as I never did April and May for the SAL and am playing catch up. I'm doing the 1990 Prairie Schooler Santa, over one, with the called for DMC. It's going to fit perfectly in a cute little plaid frame I got at Michael's last year.

 

It's going to be in the 90's today, so I'm skipping my grandson's baseball games and staying home in the A/C. I think some Making the Cut will be on the agenda; I saw a new season is starting and I love watching the clothing designers do their thing. I sure wish we could get the Great British Sewing Bee on something other than Brit Box since I don't subscribe to that...maybe I need to break down and get it!

Another Little Gift to Share.....655

 Here is another recent gift I made for a friend.....Kind Friend Gift Bag by Jeanette Douglas. This was a kit and I stitched, as is, on 32 ct Flax linen with provided DMC. I filled it with a mixture of crushed walnut shells and lavender.

 Were any of you fans of Mr. Rogers? I loved watching him with my girls when they were small; he shared many valuable life lessons in a calm, loving manner. My daughter had a copy of this book in NC and I ordered myself one as soon as I got home. We can all use a little..okay maybe a lot... of his kindness and wisdom today...it doesn't grow old! "Won't you be my neighbor?"
