Happy Independence Day!....(185)

Happy Fourth of July to all my US friends....a great day to contemplate our freedoms. I hope you are celebrating with cook outs, family and fireworks!

I did a last minute substitution on my Stroll piece for today. I'm putting up my most recent finish, Flag Needlekeep by Jeanette Douglas Designs, hot off the needles yesterday. It turned out so sweet and just in time for the 4th. I stitched as called for and added the blue JABCO star button. I really liked working with the GAST wool; since you only use one strand, it lays very nicely. I tried my hand at a triple color cord but the colors got kind of muted..... anyone ever try this?

I'm almost finished the top for for My Stitcher's Heart  box....just a wee bit at the bottom.

In closing, I wanted  to share a piece my daughter Kristin stitched for me when she was 14 years old. She stitched it totally in secret and, with help from her grandmother, had it framed.  Right before she was going to give it to me, somehow it fell and the glass broke....I've left as is. One of my treasures and very appropriate for today!!!

Thanks for stopping by and your "twisted threads" of friendship!

  6. But ... you were just working on that! The needlebook finished up beautifully - another treasure. Honestly, it's a wonder your needles don't melt at the rate you stitch, lol.

Your daughter's work is lovely as well and the America sampler is a very special piece. And she was able to surprise you with it - such fun!

  7. Very awesome finishes. I love how you left the piece your daughter did as it was. How devastated she must have been when her surprise seemed to be tarnished. I think I have that Jeannette Douglas piece. She has always been a favorite designer of mine.....and I am jealous you are almost finished the Hands on Design. I don't dare start because of that darned SAL I got myself into. Have a great holiday.....and as always, thanks for sharing.
