43 years and going strong...... (201)

Today I'm straying from Christmas in July and posting a Stroll piece I did back in 1981 because.....drum roll please...... it's a wedding sampler and today is Rich and my 43rd anniversary!!! I think it was in a magazine, but can't recall for sure. I had posted about this piece awhile ago because I had never framed it due to the pink thread running (first and last time I ever washed my needlework). So I overdyed the whole piece, was okay with the result and it was framed 35 years after it was stitched!

Sticking with the anniversary theme are two wedding samplers I've been gifted over the years. Ruth Sparrow, my old boss and dear friend, stitched this for our 25th anniversary.

Another special and dear friend, Paola, stitched this for our 40th anniversary!

I am so blessed to have such  wonderful friends who have shared their talents with me; these are treasured keepsakes which I admire every day! Thanks Ruth and Paola from the bottom of my heart!

So, yesterday went extremely well with my granddaughter and I was indoctrinated into the world of Build a Bear Workshop. We picked up a piece of Aida for her and she started a little project. I asked if she wanted to earn x's or just free hand with her stitching. She opted for the second, so she drew a heart on the fabric and proceeded to fill it in with long stitches. She chose the colors and repetition pattern; I only threaded the needle for her. Here's what she got done this morning before her Mom picked her up. She wants to make it into a small pillow for her new bear we got yesterday.

To close out...and maybe provide a little chuckle, here is a photo of Rich, my parents and I on our wedding day. And I made my wedding dress out of white eyelet! You can't tell but it had a little "apron" that went over it at the waist that had tiny yellow flowers on it---very 70"s!!!!

Thanks for stopping by and your "twisted threads" of friendship!

  5. Noel. I got married in 1974 also; November, so you've been married a little longer than me. I did the Drawn Thread piece; Marriage of the
Minds for my 40th. Of course, I didn't get it finished till we were married 42 years. LOL

  9. NOel. COngrats on making it so long. We had an odd thing happen yesterday. We stopped at an Arbys for a late lunch. While waiting on the food, the clerk talked to us and cautiously asked if we were married and for how long. When we told him, he was so overjoyed and offer lots of conrats, etc. He seemed so delighted that someone could be married that long. It will be 37 years next month. Your friends samplers for you sends their delight that you are married so long as well.

    1. Thanks for stopping by and you have been entered into the drawing (twice so far)--be sure to check back on the 25th since you are no-reply. I do feel it's an accomplishment to be married as long as we are in today's world...must have chosen well!!!

  10. Happy (belated) anniversary! Love the wedding picture. :)

Glad the overdying fixed the issue with the color(s) running - what an awful thing to have happen to finished needlework! I remember the owner of my previous LNS always saying that "(something) will make *every* DMC color run" - but of course I don't remember what the something was!
