THE BUZZ FROM THE HIVE

Friday, October 27, 2023

Greetings! It's that time of year when thoughts turn to Christmas and perhaps stitching a Christmas ornament, or two, or three!!! Do you still get the annual JCS Ornament issue? I keep saying I'm not going to buy it but, I have every issue from the beginning. So, I can't seem to stop!!! I've been disappointed the last few years, but this year has a few I like, so I started one.....Polar Night Sighting by Stitch Sprout. This is a new to me designer; have any of you heard of her? It's the one on the cover with Santa flying across a night sky. Here is where I've landed so far:

I'm stitching on 40 ct. Antique White linen, over two, with called for DMC. It is total coverage!

I saw this little jewelry box somewhere on the web and the poster put her floss bobbins in it for a project. It works great!!!

I also wanted to share these bundles of ribbon I found at Michael's...great deal with 60% off. One is Halloween colors and the other autumn. There were 25 different trims with the Halloween and 50 with the fall. These will be great for finishing!!!

Hope you have a great weekend...gonna be warm here again this weekend.....in the low 80's. I so want to wear my fall clothes!!!

Thanks for stopping by and your "twisted threads" of friendship!

Stitch A Little, Eat a Little ......Chat, Chat, Chat, Chat, Chat............

I had three days of camaraderie with my stitchy friends at the jam packed Salty Yarns. This weekend started about 15 years ago when C A Wells was scheduled to come teach and, at the last minute, cancelled. We met anyway, and have continued to do so every year since, around Halloween. The lobby at The Lankford was always decorated and Sara kept that up at the new location. Here are some photos:

I did get quite a bit of stitching done:

I know I've shown photos of the new Salty Yarns before, but thought I'd revisit for those who may not have seen them. It truly is a Stitcher's Paradise!!!

A Little Antiquing on the Way Up and Back.........

My friend, Lisa, and I left early on Thursday morning for our drive to OCMD. What should have been about a 3 -3 1/2 hour drive turned into an 8 hour drive as we shopped along the way.......and yes, we did take a lunch break.

Here are the treasures I found that made their way home with me. Lisa and I have a pact that whoever sees something first gets first dibbies!!! LOL

A sweet little chair...about 15" tall. I was debating and Lisa said how she has hung them on a wall and displayed things on the seat....stitched drums immediately came to mind.

A Chinese sewing basket, some milk bottle lids (which will become thread drops), a glass thimble and a ceramic flower frog....green, of course!

Some strawberries (these came in small strawberry basket that I passed on to Lisa) and some pewter napkin rings....future pincushions perhaps?

A lovely caned foot stool.

This was from Michaels...60% off...ideas are forming in my head!!!

Now, Lisa got the deal of the century on a Martha Washington sewing cabinet. She bought it on the way but we didn't have room in the car at that point. So they held it and we picked it up on the way back. There is a story to go along with this but I don't want to steal Lisa's thunder. I'm sure she'll talk about it on her next floss tube, Lady Huzzah Presents, so check it out if you are interested. If you don't watch FT, I''ll post something here after I know she's shared something. I had seen the cabinet first and she was very happy that I already have my grandmothers.

I'll be back with some pics of our time at Salty Yarns soon. Thanks for stopping by and your "twisted threads" of friendship!

A Great Weekend With Like Minded Souls......723-725

Greetings my friends! I had a wonderful weekend in OCMD with my friends at Salty Yarns. We stitched, we chatted, we ate and we laughed!!! I will talk about that in another post; today I wanted to finally share some gifts I made...now that they've been received.

First up is a house warming gift.....Be a Friend by Needlework Press. It was stitched on 29 ct. cream Glenshee linen, over one,  with Vikki Clayton silks.

Next was a pair of Halloween themed pieces...a scissor fob and bookmark. These were from the Black Needle Society and I found them on the second hand market. The fob was stitched, over one, on 32 ct. Grey Basalt and White Splash Lugana with DMC floss.

The bookmark was stitched on 14 ct. perforated paper with DMC. It reads "Off to my grave for I am dead, place at my side a needle and thread".

I think the recipients were both happy and I am glad to be able to post.

The Gentle Art of Stitching.....

I just read this on a FB page and thought I'd share here for those of you who aren't on FB. It is perfect for what we do! It is an excerpt from the book The Gentle Art of Stitching by Jane Brocket.

A New Merry Cox Start......

We had a very nice weekend with a visit from my brother-in-law and sister-in-law from NC. I spent last week doing fall cleaning and preparing for their visit. I was finally able to put in some stitches yesterday. I gifted my Beach Please to them and they were very appreciative. Whew!!!

After watching my friend, Lisa's, floss tube on Merry Cox, I got  motivated to pull out a Merry Cox project. I am going to OCMD this Thursday for some stitcthy fun with friends and we decided to make it a "Merry Cox" weekend. I chose A Young Lady's Workbox and got a start on it here at home.

Merry is one of my favorite designers and I've been lucky to take a number of classes with her...sadly, many are sitting idle. This is on 32 ct. Sandstone linen and uses Gloriana and NPI silks. It will all go into a special wooden box...which I have to uncover in my stash.

I spent today putting all my little "gift" bags together for the ladies and gathering my stitching supplies. As usual, I am taking waaay too much, but you never know, we must be prepared for any possibilty!!! LOL   I haven't been  to Salty Yarns since March, so I am champing at the bit!!!

Here's hoping you all have a great week! Thanks for stopping by and your "twisted threads" of friendship.
