The Regal Bee Part III (90)

Well here I am on the last day of March wondering, as I'm sure many of you are, where has the time gone? I feel we were just watching the ball drop on New Year's Eve!!! I'm 90 days in to this Stitch Stroll and still going strong. I have so much more to share; I sure hope it's interesting, and maybe motivating, to you. It has proved to be more work than I anticipated, taking the photos, tracking down the pertinent info, writing the post, etc., but I am enjoying it and considering it a great record of my stitching journey. (My hubby has quickly learned to not engage with me for about 30 minutes every morning) 😉  I think I'll do a giveaway on Day 100, so be sure to stay tuned. So thanks to everyone, especially those who have been sticking with me; I have "miles to go before I sleep".

Now on to today's post, the scissor case and fob from The Regal Bee----gosh I loved this project!!!

Some little additions to the set (thanks Paola and Betsy for your contributions)
So, that's the end of the March Stroll. I've started to unpack and hang some framed pieces, so we will start to see them interspersed with the smalls. I did finish my piece for the FB All About Smalls Spring challenge. Here is Garden Birds by La-D-Da. On a side note, I misread the chart symbols and used the blue floss for the border...should have been the green. I didn't want to rip it out (definitely wouldn't have had enough fiber) so just switched the blue/green throughout. I have to say, I am always disappointed when designers don't allow enough fibers in their kits. I literally had 2 inches of the gold color left after finishing the alphabet. It was a nail biter!!!!

I also finished the front panel of the Strawberry Sewing Purse by Catherine Theron, one of the classes I took last weekend. It is on 36 count fabric, over one....don't you love the colors? And yes, those are itty bitty bees flitting around!

The Regal Bee Part 2 (89)

Strolling today with part 2 of The Regal Bee. There were quite a few smalls associated with this project and each a fun stitch/finish. Here is the needle book and pincushion. The needle book opens up and has pages for different size needles. The side "pockets" hold a needle threader and thread catcher......and yes....... they have bees on them! :). I did a beaded edge on the pincushion and added an antique beehive button a friend had given me.

The Regal Bee Part I (88)

As the month of March winds down, so does the Woodlawn Needlework Show. So, I decided to share my "piece de resistance", The Regal Bee over the next three days. This is a design by Theresa Baird of Heart's Ease Examplar Workes that I stitched in 2012. A friend of mine gifted me the chart, I bought the shaker box and the journey began. I was enthralled with the stitching on this and challenged by the finishing (at the time there were no finishing instructions), but I pulled (again) on my many finishing classes and was able to get it all put together. I entered the piece in the 2013 Woodlawn Show and won a first place ribbon in the Blackwork category.....boy was I surprised and thrilled!!! I was  honored that my work was being appreciated by other needle workers and humbled by the fact that I was in competition with so may other fabulous works of needle art....... truly a highlight in my stitching life!!!

So onto the first part, the shaker box.

Tomorrow and Friday, I will share the smalls. (Thankfully my entry number did not bring me bad luck!)

Spring is Here.....(87)

Spring is here.....we're having an early morning thunderstorm as I write. Today's stroll piece is A Pixie for all Seasons by Bent Creek, stitched in 1998 and part of a series of four designs. The charts contain two designs, a cute little pixie and a saying; I chose to do the sayings. I had them mounted  to fit a single frame and change them out seasonally.

Merry Had a Little Lamb...... (86)

Yesterday's class was another great one, Wee Sampler Sewing Book, by Catherine Theron; this was based on an old sampler that Catherine had found. The top photo is the project and the middle one is what I got done in class. The bottom photo is of a new stitch we learned, which I fell in love with. It makes a very nice edging!

I want to thank Salty Yarns, Catherine and a great group of ladies for a very enjoyable weekend!

Now back to the stroll....today's piece is Merry's Little Lamb, a class from Merry Cox. I took this class in 2002 through the Western Reserve Sampler guild. It's a draw string purse at the top and the bottom unrolls into a needle roll with needle pages. There's a little pocket inside the lined shaker box. A friend gave me the little lamb whose home this has become.

Have a Cuppa With Me? (85)

After a brisk walk, a cuppa sounds nice, doesn't it?

Today's Stitch Stroll piece is a sweet pair by Ewe and Eye and Friends, Button Magnets: Tea and Coffee Cups. I did these in 2013 when I found the metal back board somewhere. I have it hanging in my kitchen with photos of the grandkiddies! I like to think they are both tea cups as I've never had a cup of coffee in my life. A fun project!!!

Class yesterday with Catherine Theron was great, a small (13 ladies) and quiet group. Here is a photo of the class project and how far I've gotten. The piece is called Strawberry Sewing Purse and Accessories.  You know I'm lovin' the green!!!

Gotta get moving; class starts in 45 minutes--have a good one..... thanks for stopping by and your "twisted threads" of friendship!

The Apple Doesn't Fall Far...... (84)

So here I am down at Salty Yarns in Ocean City. We had a nice quiet day yesterday, shopping, visiting and stitching. A group of ladies spent the afternoon stitching in our apartment and then we had a lovely reception for all attendees, at Sara's place, in the evening. Class with Catherine starts this morning at 9:30.

As promised, here is the other half of yesterday's post, A Perfect Pairing by Hands on Design, the pinkeep. Pleae note the "pear" button on the oval piece--that's one I made...I definitely have a new appreciation for the ladies at JABCO.

A Perfect Pairing.....(83)

Well, I've got my walk on the boardwalk in.....a little nippy but definitely woke me up!

I thought it appropriate to post todays' stroll piece while here in OCMD since it was a class hare at Salty Yarns Jamboree in 2015. It is called A Perfect Pairing by Hands on Design. There were two different projects, one with a pear and one with an apple. I'll share one today and one tomorrow. Today...the needlebook!

Today is a "free" day......tomorrow class starts at 9:00AM.

Milady's Petite Sewing Box (82)

I'm all packed and ready to go..OCMD here I come!!! But before I'm off, here is the stroll piece for today, Milady's Petite Sewing Box by Merry Cox. This was a class I took in 2006. I documented all the places I had lived up to this point on the top and bottom.

Dream a Little Dream.... (81)

Todays piece is another freebie, this time from Twisted Threads. It is called Itty Bitty Stars and Moon and is finished in a small tin frame. I have it setting in my guest bedroom, leaning on the lamp on the night table.

Beekeeper's Cottage Etui

We must interrupt this regularly scheduled program for a news flash..... I got the smalls done!!!! Yea!!!! ( sorry for two posts in one day but I couldn't wait)! OMG and is it cute! I'll refresh your memories; this is Beekeeper's Cottage Etui by Carolyn Standing Webb. I showed the cottage the other day; I'll share the smalls now. Clockwise from upper left: Sunflower Pinkeep, Pansy Needlebook, Thimble Skep, Rose Tape Measure and Forget Me Not Scissors Fob. I stitched everything as called for but added a bee button to the skep and a bee "pull" to the tape measure. I  also did a different bee on the "how doth the busy bee" piece. This was a challenging project but I really loved every minute of it!

Oh, what the heck, here's the cottage again, where all these lovelies will reside!

Thanks for letting me share my passion with you; I know I get inspired when I see other stitcher's work and hope you do too.

Tiny Dancing (80)

Today's Stroll piece is a section of a freebie from Queenstown Sampler Design called Bee Sure of My Love.  This is a little locket I found at Michael's (I think I saw the idea on a FB page). The left side is the stitched piece and the right side is a piece of quilt fabric. Petite sized needles JUST fit. I made some of these for friends as well but with a different design inside. I'll share them when I find the photos on my computer.

I worked feverishly on the smalls for the Beekeeper's Cottage yesterday; four down and one to go! I'm trying to get this completed so I can take for show and tell at Salty Yarns this weekend. Thank goodness the middle finger on my right hand has "toughened" up over the years because that "sweet" spot got a work out the last few days!!!

Stitch Strolling into Spring (79)

Happy first day of spring! I have to admit I like spring, the longer days, beautiful blue skies and lovely flowers. It's the heat and humidity that follow in the form of "summer"  that I don't appreciate. And I'm afraid summer will come too quickly on the heels of spring here in Richmond. We shall see....there is plenty of stitching/finishing to be done in the confines of my A/C.

Today's stroll piece is Swirly Spring, part of an older class piece( 1999) by Heart in Hand. I had it finished into a cube with a season on each side and can just "twirl" it to the appropriate season.

I spent  both afternoons this weekend working on finishing the Cottage and ....mission accomplished!!! I still have five smalls to do and am going to hold off and share it all at the same time. Oh wait,.... I'm too excited about the cottage to delay.....here it is in all its glory!!!

This was definitely a "challenge" but I pushed on through and am very pleased with the finished product. Now, on to the smalls!!!
