I was getting ready to do a post about my recent stitching retreat but am having second thoughts. Some of you may have read the recent blog post by Stitching Foolishness. She was asked by a designer to remove photos of a class piece due to unscrupulous stitchers using her posted photos to copy and stitch the piece. I, too received an e-mail with this request...it seems my photos were also possibly being used to do the same thing. These thieves were actually telling others on FB where to look for this info so they could also steal the design!!! SHAME ON YOU!!!! Thankfully Admins removed those posts but who knows what damage has been done.
I have removed the mentioned photos from my post and will not post photos anymore unless I can do it in such a way as to make it impossible to stitch from. This is also giving me pause as to whether I want to continue blogging. I have made some wonderful friends here, but I do not want to be a party to such underhanded actions. I like to think the best of people but those rose colored glasses are slowly becoming tarnished. I will take a few days to consider if I continue, or not.

I hope you do continue to blog. It makes me wonder if "Instagrammers" will continue to post their photos.
ReplyDeleteDon't allow bad apples to ruin your fun. When you post photos, place a water mark across the photo to protect you from pattern-piggies. Here's a couple of sites: https://www.watermarquee.com/ and https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.androidvilla.addwatermark.free&hl=en_US
ReplyDeleteI enjoy seeing your blog and would be sad if this happens. Enjoy stitching what you decide.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe you can stitch from photos, only a poor inaccurate copy. As I told Ann, I was once asked to remove one of my Pinterest pictures from my album 'things to stitch'. It was just the cover of her chart and there was no way anyone could stitch from it, nor was I breaching copyright, after all you could have seen the same picture hundreds of times just by shopping on line. You would think these designers would be glad of the publicity wouldn't you?
ReplyDeleteJust a different version of a scanner. Someone recently asked my to make a copy of a pattern WHILE I was actuality at the counter paying. I went into a long speech about copyrights and putting designers out of business over an eight dollar pattern when this person didn’t have a problem buying a seven dollar Starbucks coffee every day without a second thought....the cashier just got a big old smile......somehow there is always going to be that person who wants to take the easy way. Sit back, take a break but don’t leave.
ReplyDeleteThat’s. “Scammer”. Not scanner. And ps. So sorry this happened to you or anybody for that matter
ReplyDeleteJust plain sad. This is why I stay off of Pinterest. People putting things up ON PURPOSE that are so very wrong. I enjoy your blog very much Stasi. I love seeing what you are up to.
ReplyDeleteIronically your photos have never seemed so detailed I cold stitch from them. There are others with far more detail shown. I know that I only show "close-ups" of my monster projects and no way can you stitch from it. Please continue. You go to such interesting places and classes, etc. You also talk about your grandkids, etc. That makes you more than your stitching. Earlier this year I ordered my first order from Salty Yarns - probably never would have done it except for you talking about them. Usually I get things from my local shop then again I need to wait forever and forever and the other place is a small section of a quilting shop. Not a lot of choices for new items. BUt I digress. Many of us would miss your blog, please keep going.

Please continue your post I so enjoy seeing what you are doing, where you have been and hearing about your grandchildren, so do not let a few bad apples spoil it for the rest of us.
ReplyDeleteWould miss your blog. Love to hear about stitching, grandkids, and travel.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your kind comments! Jackie, Joyce and Barb--I'm sorry that I can't reply to you personally but you come up as 'no-reply blogger' so I don't have an e-mail address. I have been working to figure out how to watermark my photos and think I'm on the right track.
ReplyDeleteIt means a lot to get some positive feedback and is much appreciated!
Yes, this is indeed a very real problem. As a designer, I have chosen to take a deep breath and move on. There are entire web sites dedicated to rewarding people for being the first to upload their pirated copy of a design so that others can "purchase" them with bit coins. Truly alarming, but honestly, it's not worth my time and energy to try to fight it. I speak on behalf of all of my designer friends when I say that we truly appreciate all of you stitchers that CARE and that spread the word that this behavior is NOT okay. However, don't let it get you down for too long. People will find ways to cheat the system regardless of how careful you are. Please feel free to post pictures of my class pieces as well as the free chart. You have my heartfelt and free permission. :)
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you back. Wished I lived closer to go to Salty Yarns. WHo knows, maybe some day. Meanwhile I have plenty to stitch and other things to do.

PS you can always leave me a comment. I still haven't figured out why I'm a no-reply. Nothing I do has ever changed anything.

So happy you did not quit Stasi. What a sweet post from Beth. I've enjoyed so many of her charts and now it makes me want to buy even more. RJ
