Storm averted........

Earlier this week it was being hyped that we would be in the path of Florence as she headed back up the coast. Water, bread, etc.. sold out. Our main concern was power outages so I wanted to have some D batteries on hand for my stitch lamp. Of course they were no where to be found...this was Monday and storm wasn't supposed to hit until Friday. Being as I am rapidly becoming an "Amazon" girl, I came home, got on line, ordered the batteries and had them by Wednesday. Then...luckily for us...the storm turned and we were out of the danger zone. Sadly for others, they were now in the path of Flo....my thoughts go out to all those who are in the midst of Flo's torrential downpours and her aftermath..I wish you the best of outcomes! Be safe and smart!!!

So, due to the impending storm here in Richmond, schools starting closing on Tuesday/Wednesday for Friday classes. This proved the perfect time for me to have Cora and Esther over to "play" with Mary's (stitchingfriendsforever) generous gift. Mary sent me a couple boxes stuffed with card making supplies for the girls. They had a ball cutting, punching, stamping, etc. and getting their creative juices flowing. Here are some photos:

Thanks again Mary for your thoughtfulness; I know we will be having many more "sessions". Be on the lookout for a token of our appreciation!!!

On the stitching front, I got Week 9 of the Black Sampler Band SAL done last night. I am enjoying this as much as the other two!!!

And I think I'll have my Scary Berry done in time for Halloween; I only have the remainder of the background to fill in. I just love this piece and found I really like working on the silk gauze. My only pitfall has been that my eyes start to get tired and I have trouble,  with the lighter colors, telling if I missed a stitch... or not. I haven't finished one of these gauze strawberries yet, so I'm hoping it's not too fussy! Any tips out there???

Thanks for stopping by and your "twisted threads" of friendship!

  1. I am thoroughly enjoy your 'black' band sampler, Stasi. It looks like the girls had a great time papercrafting. We certainly dodged a bullet with Florence. My heart aches for those who weren't as fortunate. Enjoy your weekend!

  5. Glad to hear you escaped the hurricane, Stasi! I well remember the power outages around the Richmond area when two of my sons were in college there. One year, they even had to send the kids home for a week in the early 2000s!

The girls look like they thoroughly enjoyed Mary's gift--that was so sweet of her.

Your band sampler is looking lovely and I really can't wait to see the Halloween strawberry all stitched up. Love the progress pic on IG!

  6. I was relieved that you were not affected by the hurricane. You certainly were prepared for it. Love the photos of the girls playing and they certainly are creative! Great progress on your pretty band and I can't wait to see the strawberry, I couldn't imagine stitching on gauze.

  7. So happy to know you made it safe and sound during the threat of the hurricane, Stasi. The girls look like they are having such a great time. Mary is most generous and thoughtful and I know she enjoyed seeing the girls so involved with their new hobby. Love how your band is coming along...lovely and the strawberry is going to be wonderful. We just got home for a week at the beach and we ate at Hazzards (the people from Ocean City, Maryland) and had their wonderful crab cakes. I'm tempted to drive back just to have dinner again. RJ

  8. Happy to hear that the Hurricane missed you but, as you say, our prayers go out to those that were hit by it. However, it looks like you and the girls had lots of fun with the card making.
