Back to the Grind.....727

 I am back from a wonderful weekend in OCMD at the DVHSG fall retreat. I can't say enough how inspiring and motivating it is to spend time with like minded people, who are as passionate about their needle art as you are. I stitched, chatted, ate, and shared for 3 1/2 days in a setting jam packed with needlework supplies and goodies. I met new stitchers and visited with old friends....and I can't wait until the spring to do it all over again.  I was able to attend my first 'in person' meeting and we even had a class with Janice from Noteworthy Needle. Stacy S., from the Guild, works so hard to put these weekends together and Sara and Mary, from Salty Yarns, always treat us royally. A BIG shout out to all those involved---thank you!!!!

The class with Janice was a pre-stitch and we learned how to 'build' of thimble box. The design is an exclusive for the Guild called Thimble Treasures Sampler Box. It was stitched on 32 ct. flax linen with DMC floss. You build the box with pieces of bamboo that look like puzzle pieces, then cover with your finished stitching. It was fiddly, but so cute when completed! Size is approximately 1 X 1 1/2 inches.

I worked on other projects too...one was a gift that I can't share at this time. But here is what I did work on:

A friend had given me the chart for the Christmas Angel Ornaments from Birds of A Feather and I had stitched the Love one awhile ago and forgot to post.

I'm doing them on 28 ct. Tiny Neutral Snowflake fabric from Fabric Flair with GAST fibers. I have lusted for these for a long time and am happy to finally get them going.

Last, but not least, I received my gift from my exchange partner and I hit the jackpot! She stitched me a lovely pillow and personalized it on the back...along with a boat load of candy!!! We have never even met, but she somehow knew I have a major sweet tooth! :)

This is called Christmas Fruit Basket by Threadwork Primitives.

Here Comes Santa Claus.......726

 I just finished my latest Christmas ornament and couldn't wait to share....I love it!!!  This is Polar Night Sighting by Stitch Sprout and found in the 2023 JCS Ornament issue. This was featured on the front cover and caught my eye right away. I stitched it on 40 ct. Antique white linen with the called for DMC...and it used a lot of different shades to get the effect. I had found these cute tins at Hobby Lobby, in the ornament section, and it fit perfectly.....even the bow worked with the piece!

Christmas is bearing down on us...lots to do....l must NOT stress!!!

Moving Along into November......

 I've been moving along slowly on my ornament from the JCS Christmas issue. This is totally filled in, so taking a bit to do.

  I thought I'd fill in today with some shots of my fall decorating...I tend to rely heavily on  my stitching these days.

We Have Frost......

 Fall may have officially started on September 23, but we had our first frost last night. This looked much prettier in person. :)

I finished up my pre-stitch for the Noteworthy Needle class last evening. It will be such a sweet little box when completed. I can't wait to see how this all comes together; we were supplied with tiny bamboo, puzzle -like pieces to mount the stitching on. 

 

I saw a cute idea on IG this morning where you participate in a stitchy themed scavenger hunt for the month of November. Day 1 you post a photo of your current project; Day 2, your favorite scissors. I am late joining but plan to hop on board after I post this. So, if you are on IG, please check my posts out...@stasibbee. Looks like fun!!!

On another note, my husband has been working at the early voting poll at our local library.  He's been telling me about the canvassers (people who give out candidate info) and how aggressive they have become....both sides!!! He said they race each other to vie for potential voters attention...even if you have books in your arms and are just going to the "library". Rich has mostly been doing drive up voters and has had these canvassers push past him to get to the people in their cars. Then he has trouble getting to the poor people in their cars. Supposedly, when he gets to the cars, the canvassers are supposed to back off, as the car then becomes a 'personal' voting booth. But, these people insist they each get time with the voters and don't back away. He said it's crazy!!! I say, what's happened to common decency and civility when performing our civic duty??? I went to vote yesterday and Rich was waiting for me to walk me through the "gauntlet". Do you have this issue where you are?   And the signs....you truly can't "see the forest for the trees"!!! And I'm off my soap box!

Getting in the Snow Season......

 It is finally feeling like fall around here...I am in a flannel shirt and jeans...... weird that I was wearing tee shirts and sandals over the weekend. But, I am much happier now!!!

I said I'd be back with my car stitching.....and I am with a couple pieces I forgot to share earlier. They are all from The Snow Ball by With Thy Needle and Thread. The linen pieces are stitched don 28 ct natural, one over two and the other over one. I used the called for DMC but substituted a silk Gumnuts fiber I had for the turquoise color.

This will be a pincushion.

This will be a scissor fob. This one is a gift, but I will be making another for me. 

The car project was done on 14 ct white perforated paper. I have a little box that I've been searching for just the right design for, and this was it. Stay tuned to see the finish....it may be awhile...lots on my plate right now....and it involves painting. :(

 

 I will be attending the DVHSG retreat in OCMD in a week... and we are having a class with Janice from Noteworthy Needle on Saturday. She has designed a little thimble box for the Guild and it involved pre-stitching. Here is what I have so far.

 

We will be doing the finishing in class, so I hope to come home with a completed box.

To conclude...when Lisa and I were antiquing recently we came across these tiny metal frogs. I had seen somewhere...and I'm sorry but I can't remember where.... that people sat small frog items out when the "frog" came to visit.......just a fun little thought!!!

And It's November.......

 .....and the calendar has been updated!!! It finally feels like fall around here. After a weekend of temps in the 80's, today we have a high of 51, windy and leaves a blowin'!!! We had some fun over the weekend playing in the leaves!

Yes, we made a trip to NC to see Jax...and his parents! He wasn't feeling his best.....teething.....but we managed to have a great visit! Here is our little Cookie Monster.

I am so proud of my daughter...she made his costume!!!

Needless to say, I did not get much stitching done (some car stitching I will share another day), but I managed a visit to Anabellas in Waynesville, NC. It was about an hour drive and we had Jax with us, since his day care provider was sick. The shop is in a log home that was a model home for a builder...very cozy and inviting. Sadly, they had just put on a retreat nearby with the Housewives, so there was no fabric to be seen and lots to still be put back out. Here are couple photos:

While we were at the Halloween event in Brevard, I got to see a 'Book Bus" they have in their school system. The students helped paint, build shelving, etc.. The books are free for the taking!  What a great idea!!!

Ending, I thought I'd share a photo of my parents...all dressed up for Halloween! At 91 and 95, they still "just wanna have fun"!!! And  a shot of me and Jax, where he is actually sitting still!!! :)
