We are attempting a trip to Williamsburg today with our friends and are hoping we don't meeeeeelt away! Planning to take a ferry over to Jamestown which I've never done so that should be fun.

Hope you enjoyed your holiday yesterday. Hubby and I went to see The Mummy in a nice cool movie theater. Not a big fan of Tom Cruise, but he still looks pretty darn buff!
Today's Stroll piece was from a retreat I attended that was hosted by In Stitches in Alexandria, VA. It was a month after 9/11 and a pretty tense time for flying and being so close to DC. It was the first time I ever saw soldiers with guns patrolling the airports and security guards randomly "wanding" people to see if they were hiding weapons. Pretty scary and the start of 'not so fun' travel times. But, you can't keep a dogged stitcher down and my friends and I from Cincinnati were determined to go..... and go we did!
This was an extra little class called Shared Stitches. The Shepherd's Bush ladies did the designing and Merry Cox the finishing instructions. I think Shepherd's Bush may have released this later as a kit, but don't know what they called it.
I got another band, and a bit more, on the stocking completed; it's an enjoyable stitch!

I did a last minute substitution on my Stroll piece for today. I'm putting up my most recent finish, Flag Needlekeep by Jeanette Douglas Designs, hot off the needles yesterday. It turned out so sweet and just in time for the 4th. I stitched as called for and added the blue JABCO star button. I really liked working with the GAST wool; since you only use one strand, it lays very nicely. I tried my hand at a triple color cord but the colors got kind of muted..... anyone ever try this?
I'm almost finished the top for for My Stitcher's Heart box....just a wee bit at the bottom.
In closing, I wanted to share a piece my daughter Kristin stitched for me when she was 14 years old. She stitched it totally in secret and, with help from her grandmother, had it framed. Right before she was going to give it to me, somehow it fell and the glass broke....I've left as is. One of my treasures and very appropriate for today!!!

Happy day before the 4th!!! I hope most of you are enjoying a long holiday weekend! I really missed going to Antietam battlefield this year (it's the first Saturday in July) and hearing the MD Symphony Orchestra followed by fireworks! It was always a wonderful evening!!!
My Stroll piece today is Hip Hip Hooray by Bent Creek. It was one of their Zipper kits and a car project since it's on 18 count linen. I've yet to finish it after 15 years but hope springs eternal!!!
I finished the stitching on the Jeanette Douglas piece
and the weekly update on the Blue Band Sample SAL.
Today will be spent tidying and readying for a visit from dear friends on Thursday.

Today's Stroll piece is Americana Needleroll by Shepherd's Bush, stitched in 2002. You will start to see a pattern here, in that a lot of these USA/flag pieces were stitched in 2001-2002. There was a plethora of patriotic designs that came out after 9-11...understandably so...but I also had an Americana themed master bedroom and bath at the time. These needlerolls are always a quick and fun stitch!
I did pull out a patriotic piece to work on, Flag Needlekeep by Jeanette Douglas. This was a little mini kit that came with GAST wool fibers. It also came with embellishments and felted wool; I only needed to supply the linen, which is a 32 count mystery linen from my stash. Aiming to get it done by the 4th!

As I begin my Stitch Stroll into July I'm realizing I've been posting every day for 1/2 a year and still at it!!! It's a challenge to keep up with this but I am enjoying revisiting some old pieces and creating new ones to share. There are often special memories attached to certain projects and it's been nice to recollect them. If you've been following from the beginning, thanks for sticking with me. For July, I'm starting out with some patriotic pieces in honor of our Independence Day here in the US. First up is The Courtship by Merry Cox. This was a class I took in 2001 at In Stitches in Alexandria, VA but didn't stitch until 2007-2008. The scrimshaw piece was something I ordered from Marcy Wharton to commemorate my 30th anniversary and I pinned it on the front of this. The two silver "people" are needle holders that fit in the two pockets on the inside.
I received the next installment on the Blue Band Sampler SAL yesterday..it comes every Friday like clockwork....and got one band and part of another done last night.
I'm feeling like a little patriotic stitching, so I'm off to find something in my stash.
