Happy Father's Day....(169)

We are heading to Baltimore this morning to spend Father's Day with my Dad. My Stroll piece today is in his honor. He served in the MD National Guard for 34 years and retired as a full colonel. This is a piece I designed and stitched for him in honor of his retirement.

One of the best memories I have of my Dad is when he was coming home from being called up for a Vietnam protest rally and walked in to our house to a large group of high school girls and teachers having our peace "rally" in our living room. He walked in in full uniform and I think a lot of mouths dropped, but he greeted everyone and moved on. The nuns were very impressed!!! Happy Father's Day Dad!

A Little on the Funky Side......(168)

Today's Stroll piece is a little bit of a departure from my usual stitching, but when I saw this chart years ago, I fell in love with the bright colors and fun motifs...it just makes me smile!!! The design is Holiday Seasons by Birds of a Feather and I stitched it in 2004. There were four different designs, one for each season, and I'm showing Summer today. I stitched it on Birds of a Feather fabric (I sure do miss those fabric colors) in called for fibers. They were all mounted separately then put in a frame that had four individual openings ( I bought it like that). I'll share the other seasons at their respective time of year.

I spent yesterday afternoon in the A/C and got week 9 of my SAL done.

Then in the evening I worked on my All About Smalls Challenge piece while watching The Great British Baking Show. I love that show, but it doesn't help much when I'm trying to cut back on sweets. I'm pretty much salivating like a Pavlovian dog the whole time I'm watching.....baked goods are definitely my Achilles heel! I must hold firm....I must hold firm!!!

A Little Pin Money......(167)

Greetings all! We finally had the championship baseball game last night for our grandson, and though our 'boys of summer' fought hard, they lost the game in the end. We are proud of their season and spent many enjoyable evenings/Saturdays watching them. Go Yankees!!! ( I can't believe I just said that as we are Orioles fans and the Yanks are our biggest rivals) :)

On to stitching....the Stroll piece for today is Pin Money by Summer House Stitche Workes. I did this in 2015 and it was a small kit that included the wooden nickel.

I finished week 8 of the Blue Band Sampler SAL last night. I won't be showing the whole thing now, until it's done, since it's on the scroll frame. Week 9 came this morning, so I'll be hopping on that soon.

I'm starting to think I'm a little over committed this summer with this SAL, two Christmas stockings and I am doing a  SAL with two friends of the Elegant Stitch/Hands on Design collaboration box and smalls. But, on the other hand, a Richmond summer is upon us, with all its heat and humidity, so I'll probably be spending lots of time home in the A/C! :)

I'm going to end today with photos of my grand kids on their last day of school. They have both grown so much this year! Here's to a fun filled summer!

Tis a Gift ...... (166)

Today's Stroll piece is the last gift item I'd been working on. It is Sister of the Needle by The Purple Thread. This was gifted to my dear friend Paola, whom I was able to meet up with in Ocean City for the weekend. It was a complete kit for the pinkeep and so very sweet! Edited....I did stitch this over one but the kit calls for over two.  It was perfect for Paola since we fast became kindred spirits when we first met back in 2011.

I received a few gifts while at the retreat too....I am very blessed to have such thoughtful friends! Paola stitched this for me and her stitching is perfection!!!

I also received these from a friend......both unique! I just love the beeskep thread keeper and the needle holder is going on my magnetic board pronto! Thank you...thank you....thank you!

I did get a little stitching done last night( the bottom two rows and start of the alphabet) on my SAL and hopefully will be caught up by tomorrow when the next segment comes out.

I Pledge Allegiance.......(165)

Today is Flag Day so I thought it appropriate for my Stroll piece today to showcase a flag.
The piece is Old Glory by Shepherd's Bush and I stitched it in 2002. I bought the mat from Jill Rensel.....isn't it perfect?

Well, I am back to reality with a day full of laundry, grocery shopping, watering flowers etc..

No stitching last night as my grandson is in baseball playoffs. Tonight will be the deciding game for the season championship. They've worked so hard...fingers crossed they pull out a win! My son-in-law is one of the coaches and they promote team spirit ...... no grandstanding.....it's so nice to see these boys work together and support each other. Last night the commissioner had to make an announcement before the game about parents behavior. Evidently there had been some screaming and cursing from some of the opposing teams parents over the weekend...how very sad!

All Good Things Must Come to an End......(164)

This will be a quick post as I'm packing to head home. :(   It has been a wonderful weekend, as usual, at Salty Yarns. Thanks so much to Sara, Sally, Mary and the gang for taking such good care of us. Thanks also to all my Kindred Spirits of the Needle who share their love for this art, bring wonderful show and tells and provide much stitching camaraderie. And a special thanks to Betsy Morgan for two fabulous projects and a kind and generous heart.

My Stroll piece for today is June from the Year in Chalk Series from Hands on Design. This seemed appropriate since I'm still at the beach writing this.

It's Steamy.......(163)

Got up early to walk before it got TOO hot, but it's already HOT!!! I'll be "shimmering" all over the place today!!!

Class yesterday was wonderful...again.....I opted not to work on my finishing piece....I was feeling a bit discombobulated and thought it best to wait until I was home. I, instead, worked on my class piece from yesterday in the morning. After lunch, we learned Betsy's method of blackwork stitching and now I'm ready to attack the project. The class piece today was Virgin Queen's Stitching Wallet.

Today is a play day and then I head home tomorrow morning. It is always sad to leave here, my home away from home, but I will return in the fall!

Now on to my Stroll piece. This was for Sally's birthday, one of our great hostesses. It is Pretty in Pink by Bright Needle. This too was one of the gifts I recently was working on.

It's a companion piece to the one I did yesterday for Sara, Sally's daughter.
